Town House
Designed by Paul Shaw, measuring some 15m x 15m the garden originally consisted of grass and a tired patio. The clients wanted a striking garden with no lawn but a variety of Ericaceous plants. In addition a new conservatory was to be incorporated into the design together with a deck and water feature.
Raised beds, looking like tectonic plates drawn apart, created an ideal home for the acid loving plants, whilst the deck linked the garden to the new conservatory, reflecting the materials used inside. Read more…
A dramatic drilled slate standing stone formed the centrepiece of the water feature, whilst matching green slate acted as a lawn substitute and mulch. Matching stone was also used to create the outdoor table; surrounded on two sides with fixed seating, there’s no need to cart in and out cumbersome garden furniture.
A sophisticated lighting system enables the garden to be enjoyed well into the evening, or appreciated from within the conservatory.
Nine years later the garden has filled out beautifully. Some plants may need attention or even replacing, but a blitz visit by The Garden Design Company once or twice a year ensures that the integrity of the original design stands the test of time.
